In 2004, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for carrying out attacks, one of which involved throwing a grenade at a moving vehicle. He was supposed to carry out two suicide attacks and was even filmed preparing for the attack, and he also recruited suicide bombers for additional attacks. Released in the Shalit deal but returned to Hamas activity.
