While a prisoner in the security wing of Shita prison, he and other prisoners caused the death of prisoner Hussein Ahmed Muhammad Basumi on October 19, 1990 – on suspicion that he was collaborating with Israeli intelligence. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, which was reduced to 35 years and was released in the Shalit deal, but was imprisoned when he returned to terrorism.
