In March 2002, he carried out a shooting attack on the Halhul bypass road in the Hebron area, murdering Turgut Cengiz Toytunç and Catherine Berruex – two European activists from the TIPH organization that assists Arabs in Hebron. He was released as part of the Shalit deal. He was arrested again in 2014 after returning to Hamas activity.
